Health Habits // Drinking Green

I know the past few months the web's been abuzz with all kinds of overly elated mommy posts heralding the green smoothie's success in their household, so forgive me.
I'm here to add one more.

~ Rewind ~ 6 months ago
Me, at bitter ends trying constantly to sneakily instill new vegetables to the boy's daily meals. Steaming, seasoning, chopping, dicing, ect. Hiding and hoping they'd gobble up before they realized what they were actually eating - Which, for the most part, worked out alright - except with Arlo, who's aversion to anything green has been a sore disappointment since infancy...

But the green smoothie changed everything. As of now we're going on nearly 3 months of almost daily blends. The boys, even crying when they realize we are out of the necessary items which is amazing considering how much spinach is packed into that tasty, frosty treat (something they would never touch otherwise) As a family, it's been a great addition. Even for me. I love veggies, but have a hard time keeping up with fruit requirements - so I get the other end of it.

As for the actual concoction, we don't have one of those fancy blenders yet, but our old Oyster version seems to be doing the job just fine. We still kinda play around with the recipe, but the super simple blend we started with (for a family sized portion) is as follows:

2 bananas
1 1/2 - 2 cups of mango, pineapple (depending on your sweet needs)
A couple handfuls o' frozen spinach (depending on your green needs)
8 oz of water & 8 oz of organic apple juice (we like Trader Joe's version)
* sprinkle in berries of your choice if inclined (not a huge fan, so we usually leave them out)

Edit: Don't let the drawing above fool you. These boys are much happier and much messier after their drink than this sketch suggests. And yes, Rex helped out a bit adding his signature scribbles usually saved for Arlo's homework.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy weekend,
J

p.s: anyone have some tasty versions, feel free to share. We'd like to mix it up a bit come summer.
